Unlocking Innovation: Research, Projects, and Patents at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus

The session titled “Introduction to Research & Path to Projects and Patents” was organized by the Research Club in collaboration with the Centre for Academic and Professional Support (CAPS) and the School of Business & Management – BBA at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, on 11th October 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:15 PM. The event featured two distinguished speakers, Dr. Parameswaran S, Associate Dean, and Dr. Purnendu Bikash Acharjee, Head of Project Funding and Patents. It was designed to help students gain a deeper understanding of research, its relevance in academic and professional contexts, and how innovative ideas can evolve into projects and patents.

The session began with an engaging introduction by Dr. Parameswaran, who redefined research as more than just laboratory experiments or academic papers. He described it as a structured and systematic process of inquiry aimed at problem-solving and evidence-based exploration. Research, he emphasized, is not limited to one field but extends across disciplines, from science and technology to social sciences and the arts. By highlighting its interdisciplinary nature, he encouraged students to view research as a vital skill for personal growth, innovation, and societal development. Dr. Parameswaran then elaborated on the entire research process, breaking it down into clear and sequential stages, identifying a research problem, conducting a literature review, defining objectives, selecting methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing meaningful conclusions. Each step was supported with practical examples and relatable scenarios, helping students understand how theoretical concepts translate into real-world applications. This approach not only simplified the process but also motivated students to approach their own ideas with a more structured and analytical mindset. He further discussed how research goes beyond academia and plays a key role in solving real-world problems, improving business processes, and driving innovation in industries. By linking research to tangible outcomes, Dr. Parameswaran highlighted its impact on professional growth and its ability to shape better societies and economies. He also introduced the students to the Research Club’s initiatives on campus, which include workshops, competitions, and collaborations designed to cultivate curiosity, encourage teamwork, and promote innovative thinking among students.

In the second part of the session, Dr. Purnendu Bikash Acharjee introduced students to the concept of patents and their importance in protecting intellectual property. He explained how ideas, when nurtured and developed systematically, can become patentable projects. This part of the session added a legal and entrepreneurial dimension to the discussion, offering insights into how research and innovation can lead to real-world ventures. For students aspiring to build startups or explore invention-based careers, this was an especially valuable perspective. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students enthusiastically shared their queries and reflections. Their active participation reflected a growing curiosity and a willingness to engage with research and innovation more deeply. Overall, the session was highly enriching, inspiring students to view research as a dynamic and impactful pursuit. It not only equipped them with essential knowledge about research and patents but also motivated them to explore new ideas, contribute to academic progress, and pursue innovation in their future careers.
